Greenville, SC

Last week we flew out to Greenville, SC so we could get things lined up for our move in January. It was my first time being there, and my first impression when we walked out of the airport was that the area was beautiful. There were so many trees everywhere. We got a ton done while we were there. The first day we met with the doctor and toured two hospitals. Then we looked at a few apartments. The next day we looked at more apartments and then met with a realtor to look at houses. We're planning on living in an apartment for the first six months so we can really get to know the area and the nice neighborhoods. Then we'll be buying a house. It was fun to look around.

The downtown area was my favorite. The street is lined with trees and there are tons of cute shops and nice restaurants. We ate at a couple of them while we were there, and they were both great. We grabbed a quick lunch at Senor Wraps. They had great Mexican food. We also ate at a BBQ restaurant, and I think it was the best BBQ I've ever had. They know their barbecue down south.

(I didn't take very many pictures while we were there, but at least you can get some idea of what the area is like.)

We drove by GE to check out where Skigh will be working. I was surprised at how large the grounds were. The front has a huge grassy area with a pond and a nice walking path. It's a nice place to have a little picnic.


These next two pictures give you an idea of what it's like to drive around Greenville. There are trees everywhere! So pretty.

The only thing that threw me off a little about Greenville was the southern accent. I didn't expect it to be as prominent as it was. When we went to the hospitals, it seemed like all the doctors and nurses had accents. I was really surprised. It made me feel like we were in some foreign land. But then as we were looking at apartments and went to church, a lot of people didn't have the accent. Whew. I told Skigh if our children start to speak with an accent, we will move immediately. (No offense if you have a southern accent, know someone with a southern accent, or have some affinity towards the southern accent.)

Overall, it was a great trip, and we're excited to move out there in January.
