At the beginning of our trip, the long-awaited day of Skigh's defense finally arrived. It has taken close to five years of work to prepare for this, and he is finally done! It was difficult to juggle a new baby, a new job, and church responsibilities on top of working on his dissertation. It's taken many late nights and missed football games, but it's finally paid off.
Skigh's parents and two sisters were able to make it to his defense. (Quinta helped out a lot when she took Bailey for me, so I could listen. Thank you!) This is the title slide of Skigh's dissertation. I can honestly say that I barely understood a thing he was saying, but he presented himself and his ideas very well.
We're proud of this great accomplishment. Congratulations, Hon! Great work, and we love you.
From now on, it's Dr. Lewis to you.

Congratulation, Skigh!!!
Mom
Go Dr. Lewis!!! Congratulations, that's so awesome and it probably feels so good to be done with it all. Way to go!!
CONGRATS SKIGH!!! :) YOU DESERVE IT AFTER ALL OF THAT HARD WORK! :) I am sure Berkley was a tremendous support as well. :) GREAT WORK YOU GUYS! :) I also loved these pics. :)
Dr Lewis, this is Dr Damstedt. Many congratulations on finishing up! That's really exciting. I hope that everything went well. Too bad I wasn't around to ask all the hard questions, because as I'm sure you found out, during his students defenses, Dr Baxter only asks questions you already know the answer to. Anyway, welcome to the brother/sister-hood of the ChemE Drs. Don't let the MD's give you any crap either. They're a bunch of think they know-it-all's who only memorized a bunch of words and didn't contribute anything new to science.
