The Helmet

When Sawyer was around two months, we discovered that he had a flat spot on the back of his head. He would always sit/sleep with his head turned to the right, so that's what formed the flat spot. Bailey did the same thing when she was his age, but I don't think she ever slept long enough to form a flat spot. We did everything we could think of to get it to go away. We always moved him so he had to look to the left to see us, and we propped up blankets beneath his head while he slept so his head was turned to the left. We thought it had worked because the flat spot didn't seem quite so bad, but for his four month checkup, the pediatrician said she thought we should get it checked out. So we went to see a specialist who said she thought he would need a helmet. So, we were sent to the therapists who took a bunch of measurements and scans. A rank of seven is severe enough to require a helmet, and Sawyer was at a ten. So, helmet it was.
Here he is getting ready for his head scan.

All of his hair needs to be covered up for it because it interferes with the results.

The hard part... he has to lie perfectly still.

The scan was successful. I love how Sawyer's face is so expressionless in all of these pictures.

Back a couple weeks later to get the helmet.

And now this is Sawyer's new look. Pretty tough.
He has to wear it for 2-3 months. Not fun now, but he'll thank us when he's older.

I think he pulls it off.

Sawyer totally pulls off the helmet! It takes some pretty cute kids to pull off that kind of accessory, I should know;) Hope it wasn't too much of a headache for you. We had so much other stuff going on as the same time as the helmet that it was the least of my worries with Chloe. Ah, I am so glad we are done with all that! He looks good!
