For Sawyer's two week checkup, he weighed 8 pounds, 9.5 ounces (49th%). He needed to be over 8 lbs. 6 oz., so I was happy. He was 21.5 inches (83rd%). He has a small head like Bailey had when she was little, 13.5 inches (10th%).
I've been a little worried about how much weight Sawyer has been gaining because it doesn't seem like he eats very much at all. I have to work so hard to keep him awake while he's eating. I try to get him to stay awake for 15 minutes. He usually starts falling asleep after about 7 minutes, and there's little I can do about it. So, I was really happy to see that he had gained over his birth weight. The pediatrician said he must be a pretty efficient eater. I'm loving this change because I feel like I was feeding Bailey all the time. Sawyer actually gets mad if I try to feed him, and he's not hungry! That's just crazy to me because Bailey would have happily eaten for 24 hours a day.
One of the main questions I keep getting is how Bailey is handling the change. She's doing great. She absolutely loves Sawyer. She wants to hold him, hug him, kiss him. Sometimes she'll deny Skigh or me a kiss, but she has never said no to giving Sawyer a kiss. There have been a few incidents, mostly her throwing things at him while I'm changing his diaper. (Don't worry, he's never been hurt. She just throws little things, and most of the time she just tosses it right next to him, not on him.) The worst was probably when she threw some diaper cream at him, hitting him between the eyes, and said, "Go away, baby." I was pretty surprised that she said that. Luckily, those little outbursts didn't last long at all, and now I can leave her alone with him in a room and not worry about what she'll do. She also likes to be held like a baby once in a while. She likes to get wrapped up in a blanket. One time she said, "I'm baby Sawyer." It breaks my heart a little when she does this. We're trying our best to make sure she doesn't feel left out. Luckily, Sawyer sleeps so well that I still get to spend a lot of one-on-one time with her.
She really is a great big sister. When he cries, she says, "It's okay, baby." She calls him "Little Buddy." As soon as he wakes up from a nap, she wants to go up to see him right away. I have to watch her while he's sleeping in his bouncy seat because she always wants to go over and give him a kiss (not a bad thing, but it wakes him up).
So, I would say that we're all adjusting pretty well. It's been an easier transition than I expected. Definitely easier than the transition from no kids to one. We'll see how things go when he doesn't sleep so much during the day.
